Interview: Peggy Heart, a love story with fashion!

Vanessa Rosa aka Peggy Heart needs no introduction. One of the most known Instagrammers, with an aesthetic inspired by the 70s and 80s, she delights her followers with her very clever sense of humor and funny videos, occasionally depicting her life as an influencer and joking around about this lifestyle.

This multidisciplinary creative dips her feet in modeling, styling, photography, art, and marketing. She has worked with some of the big brands like Gucci, H&M, Armani Beauty, Gant, and more recently Darkside Eyewear, the list goes on…

“I love Fashion and for me Fashion is Art. More than Art, it is an attitude - our attitude!”

She has a very sensitive and beautiful heart she wears on her sleeve. She has, more than once, talked about the importance of mental health and how vital it is to take breaks from social media. Bringing awareness and demystifying a problem brings us all together to create a more positive future.

Since when did you become interested in fashion?

For as long as I can remember. I never forgot the day I asked my mother, as a present for passing the year with good grades in primary school, to let me dress, to choose my own clothes, to create my own identity, my own style. It was from then on that I started to have a lot of interest in fashion. But deep down I am aware that fashion has always been present, long before that, with old photographs of my family, my grandmother had her own clothes made to measure or my mother knitted many of my childhood clothes. I know that fashion is much more than mere pieces, it is something much more abstract and above all emotional.

Who are your biggest influences?

I have lots of them. From people, music, films, moments, things. From my grandmother to the Beatles, they're mostly influences from the 60s and 70s.

How did you start? Which platforms did you use?

It came very naturally to me, I've always been interested in photography and I always liked to create mood boards. I remember starting to share my photos on Fotolog and Myspace, but without a shadow of a doubt, it was on Instagram that things really changed.

What is the best part of what you do? And what do you find most challenging?

It's having total freedom to be able to create and the most challenging part is definitely trying to reinvent myself all the time.

What was your most memorable experience? Or which project did you most enjoy being part of?

I treasure many moments, projects, and experiences in my career as a content creator. The most remarkable one, as a person and as a professional, was working with Gucci.

What recommendations do you have for those who want to start working in the area?

I don't think I'm the best person for this because I'm still navigating and trying to find my way in Fashion. From the experience that I have, what I recommend, and I think it is valid for any area, is to do our own thing, to see how it is done, to share and exchange ideas with other people. There is no better better "school" than to see and experiment, fail and learn.

What's your favorite piece from your wardrobe?

A jumpsuit from the 70s.

What are you working on at the moment?

With social media, my personal projects like "Ugly portraits", creating some editorials to gain more experience and portfolio content, "Peggy Corazón" and some collaborations with artists.

Which areas are you heading towards?

Photography and fashion.

Tell me three power songs you like to listen to?

There are endless power music I like to listen to, but this could be:
Idles - Danny Nedeklo
Bill Withers - Leon On Me
ESG - Dance

You've only recently moved to Porto. What do you like most about this city?

It sounds cliché, but it's the people and the sense of community. The nostalgic, half chaotic kind of melancholic vibe of the city itself, I can't explain it.

Where did you order the last takeaway from?

I think it was a piece of cake from Capa Negra. Don't judge me, but I was in the mood for a piece of cake that day.

What are you most thankful for this year?

Being healthy.
